- Following two days of intense practices, Kings Head Coach Keith Smart scheduled a longer, “NFL-style” day for the team.
From 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., players listened to a professional speaker, engaged in a light shootaround and ended the afternoon with a film session.
“We had a guy from the Blue Angels come in,” said Smart. “He talked about teamwork, precision and how you have to trust each other. The correlation between his job and the sporting world runs parallel – the only (difference is) you can’t call timeout as a Blue Angel, take a step back and say, ‘Let’s do it again.’”
In addition to delivering an impactful speech, the pilot showed players videos of how he’s worked closely with coworkers in his field.
– While showing film from Wednesday’s victory over the Phoenix Suns, Smart focused on reinforcing strides Sacramento has continued to make on the defensive end.
“We just wanted to show them all the positives we had – we had a lot of positive defensive stuff, guys aggressively covering the pick-and-roll … and being in the right position,” said the Kings leader.
“It’s one game, I know, and it was a preseason game, but if you can build on it and keep doing it to (the point where) it becomes a habit, before you know it, we can end up being a pretty good defensive team.”
