Get unprecedented access inside Kings Headquarters on Draft Night, as Sacramento selects Ben McLemore at No. 7.
With their sights set on Kansas standout Ben McLemore, Kings Majority Owner Vivek Ranadivé, General Manager Pete D’Alessandro and Co. gathered inside Kings Headquarters on Draft Night prepared to make the first pick in the team’s new era.
While they explored acquiring a higher pick to land the electric guard, as the first five Draft choices came off the board, cautious optimism and excitement spread throughout the room.
“I think when (Anthony) Bennett got picked (No. 1), right away Michael (Malone) and I looked at each other and thought, ‘We might get our guy,’” said D’Alessandro in the post-Draft press conference. “We didn’t know, but (we thought) we might because we had it laid out and we thought, ‘This could go our way.’”
Once New Orleans made its selection at No. 6, the room enthusiastically burst into cheers, applause and high-fives, as Sacramento was set to acquire its primary target in McLemore.
“We’re still in disbelief we got him at No. 7,” said Ranadivé afterward. “It was just pure joy – when we saw the No. 6 pick and then we knew we were going to get him, we just started celebrating.”
